“You’ve gotta start with a belief, create a belief, create a future vision of the world you want to create,” Nuun CEO Kevin Rutherford said. “And then get people to believe in themselves.”

On my podcast, The Irresistible Factor, Kevin tells us how he became Nuun’s CEO, combining his passions for health, wellness, fitness and natural products. With a deep background in marketing — and experience at SC Johnson and Miller Brewing Company, along with “the OG” natural products brand, Kashi — he learned the ins and outs of business. Eventually, he found his way to Nuun, “the first real sports drink,” Kevin told me, “to separate your hydration from your fuel.”

Kevin calls himself Nuun’s Chief Eternal Optimist, and it’s true. His energy is infectious. And he has the incredible, diverse career path to show for it. When I asked Kevin how he got here, he said, “you can only connect the dots in life by looking backwards,” quoting Steve Jobs.

“Aside from luck, and being in the right place at the right time in many moments,” he shares, “I think there’s something where I have an ability to connect with people and get the most out of people.”

Together, we dive into the incredible recognition Nuun has received over the past few years, and how Kevin has been able to connect with his team, inspiring them to rally together, by supporting their growth.
